The TOBU Limited Express Train SPACIA X (SPACIA X), designed in collaboration with Hitachi’s Research & Development Group, has been selected for a Bronze Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2024, hosted by Hong Kong Design Center, and the JIDA Design Museum Selection, Vol. 26, hosted by the Japan Industrial Design Association (JIDA).
The SPACIA X began operation on July 15, 2023 as a new special express train connecting Asakusa to the Nikko/Kinugawa area. Based on the concept of “Connect & Updatable,” it inherits and maintains the traditions and brand image of its predecessor, the 100 Series SPACIA, while aiming for a more refined and evolved sense of quality. The award-winning design includes the car body colors and the lighting, incorporating the cultural colors and shapes of the tourist destinations along the route, and also features six different seat variations, including Cockpit Lounge and Cockpit Suite, to meet a variety of needs.
